Michelle Barton
Dear Georgia BTA Board of Directors:

Michelle Barton is the Business Travel Sales Manager at the Atlanta Marriot Buckhead Hotel and Conference Center. Michelle has been in the position since May 2015. Michelle has been in the hospitality business for over 30 years, holding roles in front desk, convention services, and group & catering sales. In addition, Michelle has been the Director of Sales and Marketing for various properties in the Atlanta market. Prior to joining the Marriott Buckhead, she was the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Hilton Atlanta Perimeter Suites for seven years.

On a more personable level, Michelle is active in several Atlanta organizations around the city and in her Cobb County community. For example, Michelle is on the steering committee for the Georgia Women in Lodging as well as the Buckhead Hotel Organization.

Michelle has always been a member of this organization and would be honored to be on the board.

Robin Boozer
I am relatively newer to the Business Travel Industry but not to the Meeting Planner nor Hospitality Industry.   Currently, I am the Business Travel Sales Manager at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta Perimeter at Villa Christina.   I have been with the hotel since July 2015 when I began as a Catering Sales Manager.   I became the Business Travel Sales Manager this June and attended the GBTA Convention in July.

 Before working at the Hyatt Atlanta Perimeter I served as the Director of Operations for Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church.   I had several responsibilities in this role including planning and executing all of the events held by the church and the various community groups utilizing our space.   During my 8 years at Hamilton Mill UMC, I worked and volunteered with a number of organizations including Action Ministries.  During this time, I served on several organizations as a committee member, Board Member, Secretary, Treasure and President.   I have always been involved inside and outside my community.

I started with the Hyatt as a Corporate Management Trainee in 1988.   I worked for three different Hyatt’s (Columbus, OH; Charlotte, NC; and St. Louis, MO) in a variety of roles ranging from a Restaurant Manager to Catering Manager to the Director of Catering for two different hotels.   In 1997, I retired as a Director of Sales for the Ritz Carlton St. Louis to be a “Stay Home Mom”.   I missed working for the hotel industry and returned to the Hyatt Atlanta Perimeter once my children were older.  Now, I am ready to become involved within my career.

I would be honored to serve on a committee or in a leadership role of the Georgia Chapter of BTA.   Bringing the Business Travel Community together benefits us all while supporting our city.   I believe that my skills and experience working with volunteers and committees would help the Georgia chapter continue to grow and thrive.

Dear Georgia Business Travel Association,

I am very excited to be considered for an opportunity to rejoin the Board of Directors for The Georgia Business Travel Association.

This organization has been a very important part of my professional life, as both a previous Board Member and more recently, part of the Executive Leadership Team.

I joined the Georgia BTA in 2009 and was elected to Programs Chairperson in 2011 and held this position for 2 years.  Following, I was appointed to Treasurer and held this position for 3 terms.  During this time, I was honored to receive the President’s Award in 2013 and 2015 and also participate in Legislative Day on The Hill in 2015.

Away from the Georgia Business Travel Association, I am part of the Grasp Technologies Executive Leadership Team, since 2011 and on The Serenbe Playhouse Executive Team since 2012.

Returning to the Georgia Business Travel Association’s Board is very important to me and I believe this may happen at a good time in the Board’s lifecycle as more tenured Board members transition off the Board.

During my time on this Board, we navigated through rough waters with membership issues and with the Global Business Travel Association.  Tough decisions had to be made and together as a tenured Board, we made it through and emerged a stronger organization for our Members.

The travel industry is ever-changing and these types of challenges will continue to arise.  Presently, I believe we need to find new and creative ways of attracting more Buyers to allow for a more even mix of Buyers and Suppliers.

We also need to continue to provide more value to our Members for the monies they are spending.  Other travel-centric organizations also want their time and forcing many Travel Managers to choose one over the other.

Finally, I believe that we need to continue to explore ways of attracting Procurement and Human Resource professionals to our Group.  In many corporations, the Travel Manager no longer is an island and their position reports into Procurement, Shared Services, Finance and Human Resources.

My sincere thanks for considering me as a candidate to rejoin the Board.  I know that together as a group we can continue to accomplish great things for our Members and I would very much like to again be part of this journey.

Tara Parker
After 7 years spent in the Orlando travel industry, I moved to Atlanta and am now entering my 19th year as a member of the Atlanta travel industry.  I have been a proud member of Georgia Business Travel Association for over 15 years, serving on the Board for 8 of those years.   I would welcome the opportunity to again join the Board of GeorgiaBTA to contribute what I can to help further the organizations education and membership engagement initiatives.

Temaya Thompkins
TeMaya Thompkins is the Corporate Accounts Manager for WallyPark Airport Parking.  TeMaya has held this position for the past two years. Her almost 20 years of sales/account management began at General Motors where she held positions as a Market Development Manager and a District Sales Manager before transitioning into healthcare. Prior to joining WallyPark, TeMaya was an Oral Care Pharmaceutical Specialist for Johnson and Johnson. She has also worked for two major healthcare organizations in Atlanta as a Practice Administrator. Regardless of the industry, TeMaya has built business and relationships that have made her a top performer amongst her peers.

 Personally, TeMaya is involved with several major Atlanta organizations such as Habitat for Humanity (Atlanta Women Build Steering Committee), Junior League of Atlanta (Centennial Gala Committee), United Way of Greater Atlanta (Women of Cole Cabinet), It’s the Journey (Board of Directors), and Susan G. Komen (Advocate in Science). Each of these organizations have a special place in her heart and she has the opportunity to give them something different but the thing she enjoys most is advocating for those afraid of their voice, the voiceless,  and the ones who have lost their voice. Her work with these organizations and for the people they serve has not gone unnoticed; the Atlanta Braves Foundation has recognized her advocacy work and she received their Diamond of Hope Award. She has also been recognized by the Atlanta Falcons during their Dazzle and Dine Event as well as Who’s Who in Black Atlanta for her civic and professional accomplishments.

David Van Tassell
David Van Tassell brings over 16 years of experience to his current role as Director of Sales and Marketing for the Home2 Suites by Hilton Atlanta Downtown.  His mission has always been to create lasting partnerships between businesses, including suppliers and buyers in an effort to form a seamless travel experience for his clients.  Combining creativity and communication, David has successfully been able to elevate the client/sales relationship.  Having primarily worked with focus serviced brands throughout his career, he brings a unique perspective to the board that at times can be overlooked.  David is dedicated to fostering open communications between suppliers and buyers to drive business and grow the organization.
